As master jewelers, we insist on using the finest diamonds, rubies, sapphires and other gemstones to create a true masterpiece. We look well beyond the basics of the “4 C’s” of cut, clarity, carat and color to examine minute details of each stone including the polish, symmetry, cut grades and light performance. Our experts scrutinize a diamond – not just what its certificate reads – to ensure that clients see only the best. We painstakingly choose ideal-cut diamonds that will shine the brightest, and colored stones that are the richest in saturation and beauty. And, we ensure that all of our gemstones are non-conflict.
5. WHITEST AND STRONGEST PLATINUM
Philip Press’ proprietary 950 alloy of platinum enables our Platinum Masterpieces to be whiter and brighter and endure longer than a typical platinum piece. This is especially important for prongs, which must be extremely sturdy, but not brittle or soft, to hold in precious stones. While many jewelers mix platinum with lower-strength and lower-cost inferior materials, we recognized that these were not the optimal alloy, both in terms of color and durability. We saw from other jewelers that porosity or pitting often occurs in lower-grade platinum alloys, leading to cracked pieces or bent prongs and dramatically decreasing both the value and endurance of the piece, not to mention the security of set stones.
To solve this problem, years ago we worked with an award-winning and internationally distinguished Ph.D. metallurgical engineer to create a novel platinum alloy that would not only be whiter than the typical mix, but would overcome any potential porosity issues. The result is our proprietary platinum alloy, ensuring that beauty lasts for generations to come.

8. PLATINUM ULTRA-SPECIALISTS
We are ultra-specialists focused on designing and handcrafting jewelry in platinum, the world’s most precious metal. This is not the easiest route; working in platinum is very difficult. The metal doesn’t melt until it reaches 3223º, unlike gold that melts at a mere 1700º. The tools needed to work in platinum are completely different as well. Philip Press master craftsmen choose to make our own tools out of specialty steel. Given these challenges, only a small number of jewelers around the country work in 950 platinum let alone specialize in it. But to us, the many benefits of platinum outweigh its trials.
